We stayed at MyCiti Hotel Kuala Lumpur and opted for the budget room, which didn’t have a window. The room itself was clean and functional, with a private bathroom and a great central location, close to everything we needed. The staff were lovely, and the bed was comfortable, making it a solid choice for budget travellers. The only downside was the lack of a window — it made it hard to tell what the weather was like outside!

Day 1- Check in & dinner
After a coach journey from Singapore to Kuala Lumpur, we finally arrived at KL Sentral. From there, we hopped on the red line (cash only — small notes, so come prepared!) and made our way to the hotel.
Once we checked in and dropped our bags, we headed straight to Central Market to have a wander. We grabbed some noodles for dinner from a stall in Makan Hall and picked up a few sweet treats from a nearby stall. On the walk back to the hotel, we passed the Sultan Abdul Samad Jamek Mosque — beautifully lit up at night.
Day 2: Sights & Culture
We started the day with breakfast at Breakfast Spot. The place was packed with a queue outside, but we were able to get a spot- great food and the iced mocha was fab.
From there, we started our cultural sightseeing trail. First stop: the National Mosque of Malaysia. You’ll need to cover up completely (they provide robes and headscarves), and you'll have to scan the QR code to check in (need internet connection for this).

After that, we made our way toward Merchant's Lane, stopping for street art photos and a bao bun at Da Bao Restobar. Then we wandered through Petaling Street Market which has lots of stalls selling clothes and street food. Next we visited both Sri Maha Mariamman Temple and Sin Sze Si Ya Temple-both incredible inside and out. We then continued on to Independence Square, snapped some pics with the KL sign near the library, and walked along the Sultan Abdul Samad Building before walking over to St Mary’s Cathedral.
For dinner, we went to Mee Tarik Restoran, a spot recommended by a local. You order via QR code (free WiFi available), and you can watch them cook everything from scratch. Super affordable and absolutely worth it- I would 100% recommend.
Day 3: Shopping & KLCC
After a slow morning, we had a bit of a detour to pick up Adam’s forgotten bottle from KL Sentral, which turned into a bit of a shopping stroll. There is a huge shopping centre at the station with all different types of shops. We also had some lunch here at Banana Bistro Banana Leaf Restaurant and got the 'unlimited refill' meal which was really tasty and came with a choice of curry, rice, poppadum and three veggie sides all which can order as much as you like!
Later we headed to KLCC for some window shopping (more high-end stores), grabbed some dinner at the supermarket , and watched the Symphony Lake Water Show at 8 PM.

Day 4: Batu Caves & Thean Hou temple
We were up early to catch the train to Batu Caves. The train ride is quick and cheap, and once there, we got our first monkey sightings and saw the famous colourful steps and golden Buddha.
After a short walk, we climbed the 272 stairs up to the cave. It’s stunning inside — we visited on Vesak, so it was packed, but still a great experience. After exploring, we grabbed a coffee at one of the cafés near the base.
Back in the city, we chilled at the hotel for a bit before heading out to Jalan Alor Food Street. Honestly, maybe because it was still light out, it didn’t feel too different from other food markets we’ve been to — we only ended up getting some mango.
In the evening, we got the train and made our way to Thean Hou Temple. It closes at 8 PM, so we aimed to get there around 7. The temple is gorgeous — vibrant, peaceful, and full of detail. After a walk around and some photos, we headed down to Little India in Brickfields.
As we got there, we caught a parade going through the streets! After watching the floats, we stopped for dinner at Bombay Grand Indian Cuisine- great food and lovely service. Then it was back to the hotel to pack.
