Among the places we visited during our travels through Victoria, this was one of the first, and it remains a top recommendation for anyone exploring the region.
Wilsons Prom is free for day use and easy to access Before we got there we decided we wanted to do the 6.8km return hike to Mt Oberon. I'm not sure if it's all year round or just when we went (Easter school holidays) but there was a shuttle bus from the car park to the bottom of the mountain. Make sure you go into the day-use car park with the café and gift shop and not the overnight stay one though!

Once off the shuttle we started the long walk to the top. The path is quite steep and zig-zags its way up the mountain. You'll probably need to take a few breaks along the way to catch your breath and have a drink. Luckily, there are benches at most of the bends, so you can take a moment to rest. I highly recommend wearing good walking shoes (although the path is mostly paved) and bringing sun protection and plenty of water (and snacks!). Since the bus drops everyone off at the same time, it can get a little crowded at first, but after about 30 minutes, you'll start to spread out and have more space to yourself.
Once at the top, it's a short, steep climb up a rocky path and you are rewarded with the most beautiful view of the national park and beaches below. The top is a great place for a picnic, a few photos and to relax before the long walk down! When you reach the top, you'll find a short, but steep path that leads up a rocky trail. But don't worry, the reward is totally worth it – you'll get the most amazing view of the national park and the beaches down below. It's the perfect spot to take a break, have a picnic, snap a few pics, and just chill before you start the long walk back down.

After the walk down and a shuttle back to the van we made our way to squeaky beach! The beach is beautiful and the sand does actually squeak! The sea was a little wavy but still nice to have a dip after the long walk! After we walked down and took a shuttle back to the van, we headed to Squeaky Beach. The beach is stunning, and the sand really does squeak! The sea was a bit wavy, but it was still refreshing to take a dip after the long walk. The beach was packed when we got there, and it was a bit of a struggle to find a spot to sit. But again, that's probably because we went at a popular time.
After we left the park, we looked for a place to stay in the nearby towns. There's more to do in Wilsons Prom, but the campsite was all booked up when we went, so we only had the day. If you plan on staying, I highly recommend checking out camping and booking early!
