Our adventure in Australia began in Lakes Entrance, where we lived in the bush for half a year. Although my stay was brief, Lakes Entrance is a small town where I can offer some suggestions on activities to enjoy while there.

I recommend starting your visit with a stop at the lookout point. This spot provided our first glimpse of our home for the next six months, and I highly recommend taking a photo from the top. Additionally, I've heard positive feedback about the motel there, but unfortunately, it was closed for renovations whenever we attempted to visit.

While in Lakes, a must-do is strolling along the Esplanade. This short walk allows you to explore local shops, locate supermarkets, and discover potential cafe and restaurant stops. If you fancy a beach visit, head to the footbridge for a walk over.

In terms of cafes, I worked at Bloody Good Coffee, and the name does not disappoint. The meals are generous in size, and the staff are great. Other favourites of ours include Salty Groms (voted the best in Lakes), Albert and Co (also serving dinner), and a household favourite- The Funky Monkey. As a vegetarian, I found food options at all these places.

For more dining options, consider visiting Mama Vu for Asian cuisine. The noodles, sushi, and bubble tea are highly recommended. Big Bear's Donuts is another spot worth trying, with unforgettable donuts.

For dinner, I worked at Sodafish, offering a slightly pricey but upscale dining experience. Booking a table in the conservatory or on the balcony on a lovely evening is a must do! The Central is another good spot, with hearty pub meals. Not to forget about The Servo, ideal for drinks and BBQ food.

Another highlight in Lakes is taking a cruise, Peels cruises are fab with excellent reviews. Renting a boat from the North Arm side can also be a fun experience. Additionally, the Footbridge mini-golf is a popular choice, featuring entertaining courses and the chance to win prizes.

A must-visit spot is Wyanga Winery, not only because we lived next door but because of the delicious food and wine! The tasting paddle is fantastic, and I recommend trying the Sauvignon Blanc. Lunch and Mexican nights at the winery were also fab! Another place to visit is Red Bluff Brewery with its delicious pizzas but its open only on weekends.

Fishing is very popular in Lakes! Bullock Island is an excellent location- Adam had success fishing there, catching several flathead! Alternatively, try you luck down at the Lake Tyers jetty.

Outside of Lakes, I recommend visiting Lake Tyers beach tavern for a dinner with a stunning view and exploring Metung Hot Springs (beware of mosquitoes). For those venturing further out, consider stopping at Paynesville on the way to Melbourne to see the koalas on Raymond Island (free!) and enjoy a tasting paddle with a beautiful view at Lightfoot winery.
